SimCenter 3D NXOpen Basic Course (C＃)

NX CAE, now called Simcenter 3D, is a general purpose finite element analysis package used in the analysis of cars, white goods, yellow goods, vessels, self-elevating platforms, heavy lift cranes, and so on. The software has a powerful feature called NXOpen. It is a set of API’s which you can use to create your own programs or journals that allow you to automate workflows, maxmize your engineering time, and build knowledge libraries across engineering teams.

Course Structure
During this course we will create a fully automated analysis which runs from the command line, step by step. We will use a structural analysis as an example, but the concepts are also applicable to other analysis types. We start by creating loads and boundary conditions followed by solutions and subcases, after which we post-process the results. We will see how we can pass information to the journals without user interaction, before bringing it all together in a single run from the command line. There we will also see how to solve the solutions. Towards the end of the course there is an additional section on how to handle assemblies and a few example programs. We finish the course with a section on how to easily access and share you programs. Throughout the course there are (optional) assignments that you practice the skills learned during the course.
This course is in C#, but even if you are using vb.net you will be able to apply the code and concepts from this course.
How I got started
I worked as a structural engineer and started using NX CAE version 6.5, now Simcenter 3D, as an analysis tool in 2008 for the structural analysis of vessels, self-elevating platforms used in wind turbine installations, as well as heavy lift cranes. After several questions from colleagues I realized that there is more information available for NXOpen in the CAD world, however there was a lack of information on NXOpen for CAE.
This is why I decided to create this course.
